How Should I Structure My Literacy Block?

Your school’s schedule holds you to a specific time frame for how long you have to teach reading and writing on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, as language arts teachers, we often do not receive as much time as we need to teach reading and writing.  One of the most common questions I receive from blog readers, teachers who buy my TpT products, and teachers who I coach is: How do I fit it all in?

I have found that going into the school year with a tentative plan on how I’m going to maximize the time I have during my literacy block to teach reading and writing leads me down a more productive path.  You can always adjust and tweak your plan as the year progresses, but trying to challenge yourself and your students to gear routines and behavior expectations in order to maximize the time you do have is key.

That’s why I decided to create a guide for my middle school teacher friends out there, outlining possible ways to lay out Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop depending on the amount of time you have with students each day.  It is a free download on my TpT store, so I hope it is helpful to you!
