Hey there! I’m Kasey Kiehl.

I’m from and still live in the “Northwoods” of Wisconsin, which most likely feeds my love of lakes, animals, and a delicious Friday night fish fry. Between my hubby, two sons, cat, and dog, I am surrounded by ALL boys (and wouldn’t have it any other way). A believer in balance, two of my favorite things are iced coffee and a sweaty workout.

I discovered early on in my teaching career that I have a love for creating resources to use in my classroom. This bloomed when I began my role as literacy coach and quickly learned that not all teachers shared my passion for resource creation. Professional development and in-class coaching was great, but if I was able to provide teachers with a resource to help them implement what we were focusing on, that was even better.

With a heart for learning and a believer that learning drives change, my decade-plus teaching and coaching career has been a fun and fulfilling adventure. Along the way, I’ve picked up degrees in Secondary Education for English, literacy coach & coordinator, K-12 Reading Interventionist, and a Master’s Degree with a reading emphasis.
The Literacy Effect is here to serve middle school ELA teachers. There is a fine line between educational theories and classroom realities (especially with middle school students, let’s just be real here). It’s easy to get hyped up while reading a PD book or watching an educational guru speak at a conference, but the hype is often forgotten before teachers even have a chance to try because of the overwhelm that comes from all the other “stuff.”

My mission for this space is to bring together awesome educational philosophies with ready-to-use, practical, and realistic ideas and resources. My resources make it possible to implement a rigorous and engaging curriculum with best teaching practices immediately, all while saving teachers the most precious thing: time.

I’m so glad that you’re here and promise to always be authentic and transparent, keeping teachers’ and students’ best interests in mind. If you want to partner with me on this teaching journey, make sure to subscribe below. If you want your school to team up with me, I do offer virtual and in-person consulting services to help districts implement my year-long curriculum for reading, writing, and/or word study. Email me directly to discuss this at kasey@theliteracyeffect.com.
